Who is our enemy, what is the best tool to fight it and is it even worth trying?
Who is our enemy?
Who is NOT our enemy?
Please stay informed, open-minded, and openhearted. Educate those who don’t know what to do, support those who simply cannot stay at home.
What is our best tool to fight with the enemy?
Apart from proper hygienic protocol and social distancing – self education and sharing knowledge is your best tool.
Remember about the credibility of the sources. Check where they come from if the source is credible.
Before sharing the information always ask yourself if this is the piece of information that I you would follow personally.
There is one particular type of tool that has a big chance to put the virus down: knowledge and awareness spread by social media. We all know that some messages go viral. In fact, spread of news through social media is very similar to that of a virus. In both cases the spread is non-linear but exponential. It can help us win the battle with the virus if we spread the correct and vital information.
What does it mean? On the first day it was only me on the FlattenTheCurveNorthShore Facebok Group. Today we are more than 1600.
You should know that people who know you in person might follow you and your personal example more than the official authorities. Please make the knowledge about the importance of social distancing and hygienic protocol spread faster than the Coronavirus amongst those whom you know. Set an example. Don’t be afraid to take action. Exercise peer pressure. Try your best! Challenge others! You might be saving thousands of lives. Do not be afraid. There is a huge community that supports you. And remember many people are just confused as the instructions are not clear. Make it easy for them. Explain. Help one another. Remain kind. Remain thoughtful. Remain respectful. We are all excercising an unprecedented test in global solidarity. It is important that we stay together to be able to pass it.
What not to do?
Please do not blame anyone. It is clear by now that we are all in this together. And that we had all ignored or downplayed it at some point. All. Now is time to act together!
What to do?
Stay at home with the closest members of your family with whom you are sharing the household as much as you can and limit the movement of people and things to and from your household to the absolute minimum allowing only for the essential movement. Remember about taking preventive measures and strict hygiene. Wash hands often for at least 20 seconds. Refrain from touching eyes, nose and mouth with your hands. If you do touch – wash your hands.
Is it even worth trying?
Some people say it is not even worth trying as the epidemic will last the same length of time no matter what we do. It is certainly not true for COVID-19. There are many success stories. The World Health Organization most often refers to the Chinese case.
For more information on success story of China you might want to check this website provided by the United Nations Organization: https://news.un.org/en/story/2020/03/1059502.
North Shore please stay at home! All the visitors – we are happy to see you once it is all over but now – stay at your own home, please! The sooner we all do it the sooner it will be over. It is possible. Now it depends on us! Can you imagine that party once it is over? Is Ambleside beach big enough for that? Any other suggestions for a place where we will celebrate once it is over?
Who is our enemy?
- Covid-19 aka coronavirus. That is best killed by often practised and thorough hand washing (around 20 seconds each time) and staying away from places and people that might potentially carry the virus. Our best tool right now is self-isolation at home with the closest family members or other people with whom we share our household and limiting the circulation of people and goods from and to our household to what is perceived as essential. If we need to stay outside – we have to practice social distancing by staying away from others at a distance of at least two meters, no matter if any symptoms are developed. We also need to remember about the strict hygenic protocol.
- Lack of knowledge aka ignorance is best combated by explanation and sharing knowledge. Not blaming and shaming.
Who is NOT our enemy?
- People positive with COVID-19 – please help and support the best that you can to help the people but do not spread the virus further. Take all the preventive steps. Stay tuned to recent recommendations of health authorities.
- People who are not doing what you think is essential for preventing the further spread of the virus.
Please stay informed, open-minded, and openhearted. Educate those who don’t know what to do, support those who simply cannot stay at home.
