What can parents do?
Please keep your kids at home or in your yard unless absolutely necessary to do otherwise. Don’t accept any playdates at this time. Please stay away from the playgrounds. If you go anywhere outside your household remember that the virus lives also on the surfaces. Practice strict hygiene, do not let the kids put their hands into eyes, nose or mouth when outside. If it happens wash or disinfect hands.
Keep them busy but most importantly keep them happy and relaxed. Don’t ignore them. Don’t be angry. Teach them about the hygienic protocol and social distancing. Explain that it is important but make sure not to overload them. Keep them away from the media. Reassure them that it will soon be over.
I know it is tough. We work from home, home school, clean, cook and at the same time worry about our parents and grandparents whom we cannot visit.
I am the same. I have three kids. Family and friends in Poland and Italy. Sometimes the phone never stops to ring when all the other things at home still need to be done. It is tough.
But I try to stop sometimes. Embrace little moments of life that unexpectedly slowed down.
Remember? Not that long ago we were all complaining how overscheduled we are and that life turned into an insane race. Now it has slowed down. Appreciate it now when it lasts.
One more good news! My son, Ignacy has worked hard to compile many materials available now online for free so that you can find them easier and enjoy staying at home even more.
Please check the links for the resources for adults and kids provided for all of us by Ignacy.
Please help me in convincing others that staying at home now is not only essential but could also be a blessing if perceived from a proper perspective. Please help me to spread the news that #StayingAtHomeIsAwesome on all the possible social media, challenging your friends to stay at home with their kids, wash hands, and practice serious social distancing. Post a message on your profile that you are staying at home with your family and why you do it.
At this point peer pressure is crucial. People might in fact follow your personal example more than the authorities. Your power to influence others is bigger than you think. Set an example. Be proud. Help me with convincing people to stay at home.
My son, Ignacy wants to publish a challenge for you everyday so that he could stay in touch with the friends he is missing. Maybe you could help him at the same time contributing to the spread of information that many people treat the situation seriously and stay at home. You could also have a small mission to complete at home, have something to look forward to and by doing it – spread the message to others.
