Flatten the Curve North Shore FB group
It all started very late at night some time last week. I was understanding more and more from what was going on in Italy in terms of the COVID-19 outbreak and it was slowly becoming obvious that reality in many European countries is going to change rapidly. I already expected Canada will follow soon.
It seemed to me that the best that we all could do at this point is simply to stay at home and let the specialists do their job. I had no idea how to explain it to my kids when everyone else was just preparing for their Spring Break holidays. I had a feeling of being alone. It seemed to me that nobody around me was getting the point. I tried to reach out and opened the group.
I had tears in my eyes the moment I realised that the group has hit 1000 members in just few days. I was definitely not alone. Many people on North Shore were already voluntarily self-isolating with their families at home. Many were in quarantine.
The community at the point I am writing has more than 1600 members and still growing. It is huge. It is powerful. It is doing an amazing job trying to educate its members and people outside the community on how to stop COVID-19 the fastest possible.
It gives hope because it is spreading exponentially the way the virus itself.
On the first night it was only me, desperate to reach out, thinking that nobody around me understands, not knowing what to do with the knowledge I got from my Italian friends. Soon there were my three friends from North Shore who became admins of the thriving community that is now bigger than 1600. I am definitely not alone and there are more of us!
If we all stand together, reunited facing this unexpected challenge and allow the knowledge and information to spread faster than the virus – we really have a chance to win and stop COVID-19 quicker than it seems.
Please join us if you think you can contribute with your knowledge and skills.
